2019 Lansum International Music Festival

 Winds/Percussion Competition Rules

 

The 2019 Lansum International Music Festival Competitions are open to young musicians of any nationality, age up to 28.

1. APPLICATION

The complete application form and all required documents should be postmarked by June 30, 2019. Applications are not considered complete until all documents and fees have been received by the administration of the competition. The application fee is $100 and are non-refundable.

2.COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The 2019 Winds/Percussion Competition has four categories.

A. Up to 9 years of age
B. 10-13 years of age
C. 14-17 years of age
D. 18-28 years of age

The contestants in each category must be of qualifying age on August 1, 2019.

With your application form, you must submit one copy of a proof of age document (passport or other legal document) and two current photos.

3. COMPETITION ROUNDS FOR CATEGORIES A,B,C

The competition consists of one final live round.

List of applicants who entered the Live Competition round will be posted on the website.

Accepted applicants should come to the opening ceremony on August 4, 2019 to listen to the important announcement and draw a number to choose their own order of performance.

I. Final Live Competition Round

Final results will be posted on the website.

All winners must be present at the Award Ceremony and Winners Concert.

4. COMPETITION ROUNDS FOR CATEGORY D

The competition consists of a Semi-final and Final round.

I. Semi-Final Live Competition Round

List of applicants who are accepted into the semi-final round will be posted on the website.

Contestants from category D who will proceed to the final round will be notified through an email message right after the judges’ decision and they will compete in the Final Round.

II. Final Live Competition Round

The Final round program may not include the same pieces played from the Semi-final round.

Final results will be posted on the website.

All winners must be present at the Award Ceremony and Winners Concert.

5. STRINGS REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS 

No transcription to easy version of classical repertoire is allowed. No free improvisation or pop music is acceptable.

A, up to 9 years of age,

Performance time limited: 10 Minutes

One live round, one or two pieces, free choice from standard repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary).

B, 10-13 years of age,

Performance time limited: 15 Minutes

One live round, two or more pieces in contrasting, free choice from standard repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary).

C, 14-17 years of age,

Performance time limited: 20 Minutes

One live round, two or more pieces in contrasting, free choice from standard repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary).

D, 18-28 years of age,

Performance time limited: 30 Minutes

Two live round: live round I program is of free choice from standard repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary); live round II program is of free choice as well.

The program at live round I competition should be different from the program at live round II competition.

6. PERCUSSION REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

A, Up to 9 years of age

Performance Time Limit: 10

One live round, one or two pieces, free choice from standard repertoire.

B, 10-13 years of age

Performance Time Limit: 15

One live round, two or more pieces in contrasting, free choice from standard repertoire.

C, 14-17 years of age

Performance Time Limit: 20

One live round, two or more pieces in contrasting, free choice from standard repertoire

D, 18-28 years of age

Performance Time Limit: 30

Two live round: live round I program is of free choice from standard repertoire; live round II program is of free choice as well.

The program at live round I competition should be different from the program at live round II competition.

7. INTERNATIONAL CONTESTANTS

International applicants should consult with the nearest American Embassy or Consulate for visas. The Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition will send an official letter of invitation. The official invitation letter will be sent via e-mail, and the original copy will be sent by regular mail. Express mail can be requested for an additional $30. The official letters will only be provided to the applicant after his or her application has been completed and accepted.

8. JURY

The jury has the right to stop the contestants during the performance if the playing time is expanded or in any other necessary cases.
The students of the jurors are not permitted to attend to the competitions. The students of the board of directors of the competition organization are not allowed to participate in the competitions.

The decisions of the jury on the Semi-final, and the Final round will be final.

9. WINNER’S AWARDS

All winners of the Lansum International Music Festival Competitions must be present in the Awards Ceremony and Winners Concert in order to receive the awards.

The first prize winner in each category will perform in the Winner’s Concert.
